Objectives
This course has two primary objectives: (1) to teach student the skills required to create the
yearbook and (2) produce a book which reflects journalistic standards. In order to accomplish
these two objectives, students will devote their time to the following:
• Learning their rights and responsibilities as student journalists
• Gaining proficiency in desktop publishing using Online Design
• Incorporating advanced design principles to create effective layouts and coverage
• Learning and demonstrating journalistic techniques of copy writing and AP style
• Applying higher-level skills of photography and photo selection
• Understanding advertising purposes and developing marketing plans for yearbook and ad sales
• Develop student leadership and decision-making skills
• Finding ways to include students and staff into the yearbook through various forms of coverage
• And most importantly, producing a yearbook the staff, the school, and community can enjoy.
