Ms. Coderre’s Room 181 Homework March 9-13, 2026
Thank you to Jules’ & Johan’s parents for sharing their answers to each nightly question last week during Read Across America week. We enjoyed hearing your answers and learning about you as a child. In math we will focus on place value, specifically how 2 digit numbers are made. I know you will want to teach your child how you may have learned in school by referring to numbers like 56 as 5 in the tens place and 6 in the ones place but please follow the worksheet guidelines. We want first graders to understand the value of each digit. For example the number 56 is 5 tens which is 50 and 6 ones which is 6, 50+6=56. This will eventually lend itself to adding and subtracting 2 digit numbers and making numbers in a variety of ways. In Wit & Wisdom we are writing our own story about a character Owl and the wind. In Fundations we are learning about closed syllables which will help us tackle multisyllabic words(more than one syllable) and digraph blends. These skills will help us become better readers. First grade is the year for students to become readers. It is imperative that your child is reading to you as well as listening to you read to them each night. In your folder you will find an article from Readingrockets.org which can help with nightly reading. Feel free to visit their website for other great information for parents as well as helpful videos.
**Friendly reminder my website is updated each week with spelling words, dates to remember, our schedule, and other important information. Many questions parents have can be answered on my website. Thank you.
