The Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) Model is a research-based and validated instructional model that has proven effective in addressing the academic needs of English learners throughout the United States.
There are Eight Components:
Lesson Preparation
Building Background
Comprehensible Input
Strategies
Interaction
Practice/Application
Lesson Delivery
Review & Assessment
When teachers use the instructional strategies that are connected to each of the above components, they can design and deliver lessons that focus on both the content outcomes and language objectives of the EAL students in their mainstream classrooms.
