Henry Groseclose, a professor at Virginia Tech, is considered to be the Father of the FFA. He wrote most of the ceremonies and established the basics of the FFA.
The first issue of The National Future Farmer was published in the Fall of 1952. Even though girls were not allowed in the FFA at this point in time, the first issue featured Miss America on the cover. The young lady in this photo is Jaque Mercer of Arizona who was Miss America in 1949. The information about the photo inside the magazine says she is Miss America of 1950 but that is not correct because there was no official Miss America in 1950 because of a change in the date of when the official reign of Miss America begins.
The subscription price for the magazine was 25 cents a year or $1 for five years. The cost of a single issue was 10 cents.
