Unit Structure: The unit organization is similar to a military organization in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps. Cadets who possess leadership skills and demonstrate proficiency in various areas are placed in leadership positions to assist in running the unit. Each Naval Science class is designated as a platoon. Cadets are assigned the responsibilities of leading, instructing, and maintaining discipline within the platoons.
Unit Organization Table: The unit is organized as a battalion comprised of three companies led by a Battalion Commander and separate Company Commanding Officers and staff. The Battalion Commander and Battalion Staff positions are held for the entire year.
The Cadet Staff for an upcoming school year is selected 1 1/2 months prior to the end of the previous school year. A Change of Command Ceremony is held one month prior to the end of the school year, allowing the new Cadet Staff to operate as a team for one month under the eye of the previous Cadet Staff, to help them get the feel for their new jobs and responsibilities.
