Major Matthew Prane
Military Biography:
Major Prane is starting his second year of teaching as the Senior Naval Science Instructor at Havelock High School after retiring from 21 years of active-duty service in the US Marine Corps this March of 2024. Throughout his career, Major Prane spent 9 years enlisted as a Combat Engineer before graduating college through the Marine Enlisted Commissioning Education Program at Iowa State (NROTC). Upon commissioning, Major Prane served as a Radio Reconnaissance intelligence officer with the 2d Radio Battalion under II Marine Expeditionary Forces, earned the UK’s highly coveted green beret through successful completion of the All-Arms Commando Course, served as the first-ever exchange officer with the Canadian Army Intelligence Regiment and finished his career conducting information operations in support of 6th fleet objectives throughout EUCOM.
Major Prane holds a master’s in strategic leadership and a double major in Business Management and Marketing. His decorations include a Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal with bronze star, and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal. Major Prane is Married to Ann Prane, a teacher at Swansboro Elementary and together they have 4 children: Daniel, Jacob, Jason, and Samuel.
