HRL staff complete the IDI assessment annually. The IDI provides in-depth insights on how individuals and groups make sense of cultural differences and also how they respond to those differences. The IDI measures both skillset and mindset.

Perceived Orientation: where the individual or group places themselves along the intercultural development continuum.
Developmental Orientation: an individual or group's primary orientation toward cultural differences and commonalities along the continuum as assessed by the IDI. The DO is the perspective the group is most likely to use in those situations where cultural differences and commonalities need to be bridged
Orientation Gap: the difference along the continuum between the Perceived and Developmental Orientation. A gap score of seven points or higher indicates a meaningful difference
