Unit 8: Properties of Gases

In this unit, the focus will be on the nature of gases and the role of gas pressure, as well as investigations of the laws governing the behavior of gases.

The student will understand that:

  • gas pressure can be measured, is affected by several factors, and has practical application to our lives.
  • there are relationships among temperature, pressure and volume of a gas.
  • lab work must be performed in a safe and cautious manner.

Essential Questions:

  • How can a change in gas pressure have a practical application?
  • How are temperature, pressure and volume of a gas related?

Learning Targets:

I can...

- Apply the kinetic theory of gases to explain gas behaviors.

- Explain the relationship between pressure, temperature, and volume

- Apply the relationships between pressure, temperature, and volume to solve

problems related to the Gas Laws.
