Hello! My name is Kelly Ferrante and I am an 8th grade science teacher here at UMS.
When people ask me what I do and I tell them that I'm a middle school science teacher, they often look at me like I am crazy. Honestly, there is nothing else I would rather do. I have wanted to be a science teacher since I was in middle school. I found myself helping my friends with their homework in science and thought it could be something I do "when I grow up." When I was in high school, I found that my favorite classes were my science classes and I really found the material interesting. Science is the one subject that seeks answers to all the questions all around us.
I graduated Rider University in 2004 with my BA in Elementary Education and Biology. I spent one year teaching 6th grade life science in Branchburg as a maternity leave replacement, then found my way to Montgomery the next year. When I was first hired, I taught 7th grade science. In 2012, I found myself teaching both 7th and 8th grade science. Finally, in 2016, I made the switch to 8th grade science full time.
As for my life outside of school, I married my high school sweetheart in 2006 and we have 2 beautiful daughters together. Kaleigh is 14 and Emma is 9. I love baking, gardening, fishing, reading, going to the beach and hanging out with our 8 chickens (Cinderella, Patty, Nugget, Reba, Fancy, Chocolate, Chip & Black Widow Spider). I also have a house sparrow that fell out of its nest as a baby and his name is Monty Chirps!
