Large-scale Laboratory Tornado Simulator

To find the real characteristics of tornadoes and to build structures back better, Dr. Yan and her group decided to bring tornadoes into the lab. Under the support of College of Engineering and Computing, the Office of Vice Chancellor in Research of the university and the Sinquefield family in Missouri, the laboratory tornado simulator was erected in April 2022.  Dr. Yan’s group look forward to reproducing the real-world tornadoes in the lab environment and reveal the real failure mechanism of civil structures under tornadoes. Dr. Yan welcomes researchers, practitioners and other stakeholders to do testing in this facility. Missouri S&T is ready to contribute to tornado resilience!
