Welcome to social studies! This year you will investigate past and current events from the perspective of an historian. Historians are concerned with events that have happened in the past. However, their curiosity moves beyond the idea that an event has taken place; historians want to discover why different events unfolded in a certain manner, to understand their significance for us today, and to predict how they might shape the future. Likewise, historians seek evidence to support their understanding of past events and current events.

As 8th graders, you will be taking a road trip through American history. We will study the period of time from the first Americans to the birth of our nation. A syllabus will be given at the beginning of every unit, containing our learning objectives and a unit overview. Each unit will include vocabulary quizzes, constructed responses, a unit test and a hands-on project.

Each year, I pride myself in creating a classroom family; bringing students together in a meaningful and supportive way is one of my strengths as an educator. This year, you will spend a significant portion of your waking hours (during the week) on this team, with this group of people.
