Writer's Workshop

Students begin Writer's Workshop by decorating their Writer's Notebook with pictures that reflect their interests and passions! This notebook becomes a resource, a place to record information, and a place to write, write, and write some more!

We begin every Writer's Workshop meeting together as a group to discuss a mentor text, a writing strategy or skill, and a goal for our writing time. We then return to our desks for a five minute quiet write. During this time, students are asked to write silently at their desks and focus on the skill or strategy we have just discussed. We then break up the group to go write and work on our goals. Students conference with each other or the teacher during this time. The group then meets again to SHARE their writing and to discuss future writing goals!

During the school year, we will complete writing units such as personal narratives, poetry, research skills, persuasive essays, blogging, literary essays, and many more. Students will be asked to edit, revise, and publish their writing for a final assessment. Finally, students share their work with others to get feedback, confer, and for the pure enjoyment of sharing their own hard work and creativity!
