• Characteristics of traffic congestion:

– Slow travelling speeds

– Vehicular queues or build-up of vehicles

Where is traffic congestion found in the city?

Concentration of traffic congestion in the city

• The Central Business District (CBD) is the commercial centre where businesses are concentrated in the city

– High traffic flow caused by high volume of cars/vehicles, especially during peak hours

• Traffic occurs especially during peak hours

– People go to work in the morning and go home in the evening

– Roads in or connected to the CBD are affected

– Peak hour refers to a part of the day during which traffic volume is the highest
