National Tobacco Torch Run

As part of the President’s national initiative on the Tobacco Generational Ban, the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports, Fitness and Recreation and WHO, is organizing a 24-hour National Torch Run to mark the beginning of the Tobacco Generation Ban Week.

MNU has been allocated the time slot from 10:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on 31st October 2025 at Ekuveni Stadium.

We invite all staff, students, and families to join this national event and show our collective commitment to a tobacco-free Maldives. Participants will engage in a 30-minute run/walk followed by 30 minutes of cheering and awareness activities.

We are excited to announce that the Maldives National University (MNU) has been given a unique opportunity by the Chinese Embassy to send six of our students to China. This initiative aims to promote mutual understanding and cooperation between the Maldives and China.

To ensure a fair and transparent selection process, the following criteria will be used to identify eligible candidates:

1. Leadership Roles (50% Marks) - Priority will be given to students who have demonstrated leadership within MNU for more than a semester, particularly those active in the Student Union and WINGS. (CV and submit documents to verify of your leadership roles at MNU) 

2. Academic Standing (25% Marks) - Eligible students must be studying full-time and currently enrolled in all subjects as per their course structures. 

3. Academic Performance (25% Marks) - Students must have passed all subjects attempted in the last semester. 

* Student Support Team will check your academic standing and performance through our system. You are not required to submit any document for that.

If more than six students meet the above criteria, the final selection will be based on academic performance.

This selection process ensures that the chosen students will not only represent MNU's academic excellence but also embody the leadership qualities that reflect our institution's core values.

We encourage all eligible students to apply for this incredible opportunity. Further details on the application process will be provided soon.

STF 2023 aims to facilitate dialogue and the sharing of ideas, with a focus on a more responsible and eco-friendly future in tourism. Additionally, it seeks to establish criteria for sustainable tourism in the Maldives.

The design of STF 2023 emphasizes the creation of connections among various aspects of the Maldivian tourism industry, bridging the gap between local and international stakeholders, government bodies, independent institutions, and scientific and academic entities. It plays a crucial role in setting industry standards and generating knowledge-based resources that contribute to a global understanding of sustainable tourism.

IMTM invites all stakeholders in the tourism industry to be a part of STF, fostering innovation and collaboration for sustainable tourism.
