Not all of the content in a given grade is emphasized equally. Some areas require greater emphasis than others based on the depth of the ideas, the time they take to master, and/or their importance to future mathematics. Listed below are the major focus areas for each grade which will be covered throughout the year.
Grade 1:
Operations and Algebraic Thinking
Developing understanding of addition, subtraction, & strategies for adding & subtracting within 20.
Number and Operations in Base Ten
Developing understanding of whole number relationships and place value, including grouping in tens and ones.
Measurement and Data
Developing an understanding of linear measurement and measuring lengths as iterating length units.
Grade 2:
Operations and Algebraic Thinking
Building fluency with addition and subtraction.
Number and Operations in Base Ten
Extending understanding of base ten notation.
Measurement and Data
Using standard units of measure.
