Welcome to Math Intervention with Mrs. Smith. I look forward to working with your child to help strengthen their math skills and develop a foundation which will support future learning.
The focus of the Math Intervention program is to build foundational skills and concepts which will help prepare students to understand more complex concepts as learning progresses.
Math Intervention groups meet three times a week for forty minutes. During this time students are actively engaged in a research based program designed to build the confidence and skills necessary to excel in math.
Daily routines drive each math intervention lesson:
Warm-up: Students will participate in a warm-up activity to help prepare them for the lesson.
Engage: Student engagement is the heart of the program. They will develop and practice key math concepts through engaging activities and games.
Reflect: Critical thinking reinforces students' understanding of math concepts. Students will reflect on each lesson through discussion activities.
Each lesson in the program is tied to a Common Core State Standard. The activities are purposeful and are designed to help develop conceptual understanding and computational fluency. Both group and individual activities are utilized to provide opportunities for collaboration as well as personalized, individualized learning.
