I am excited about ELA! You will quickly discover that I LOVE to read and sharing books together is something we will do often. We will be using the Wonders program to explore various stories, respond to text, and expand our thinking. (Just like you did in second grade.) Students will also listen to many chapter books throughout the year.
Grammar and writing are also a vital part of ELA. Students will have the opportunity to learn and practice various grammar skills and to apply those skills in writing. We will study various parts of speech, figurative language, and sentence structure this year. We will also write personal narratives, nonfiction pieces, opinion pieces, and poetry.
We will also be doing various word studies. Students will practice applying previously learned phonics skills to multisyllabic words, learn various Greek and Latin roots, and learn common prefixes (pre-, re-, un-, etc.) and suffixes (-ful, -less, etc.). Word study is another topic that I love!
Students have access to several ELA websites through Clever. They can access Wonders and practice skills with Lexia, iReady, Boom Cards, and Scholastic.
