If you only have your syllabus as a PDF, or if when you export it to Word it doesn't look good then you will need to take a few extra steps. Upload your PDF to Google Docs. Set it to be viewable to all. Click on File, Embed the PDF. It will give you a code to copy (you will probably have to right click / ctrl click and select copy). Go back to this page. Go to File, Insert, More gadgets. In the search box type "embed" without quotes. Select the embed gadget, then select. Paste your code into the box. In the part where you paste the code change the width to be 900 and the height to be 1100. Scroll down and adjust the settings below to be the same dimensions, and remove the title bar. Click Save.
When your PDF appears, it will have the thumbnails to the side and the main page will not be full width. If you click the left bracket in the top left corner twice, once to remove the thumbnails, and once to return them, it will revert to full width. You may want to include a note about this to your website visitors.
Correctly done, it will look like this.
If you need to adjust the settings, click on the gray box, click on the gear, then make any changes necessary.
If you want to allow it, you can click on add files at the bottom, select a PDF of your syllabus, and students/parents etc. will be able to download it.
