Fall is the perfect time for being outside. Taking your child on a nature walk and playing a game of I Spy is a fabulous way to explore the fall environment and expand your child's expressive language abilities. Ask your child to describe features (e.g. color, texture, size), locations, and functions of items found in the great outdoors to increase their vocabulary and expressive language skills. For younger children, simply go outside and label the items in the environment. Ask questions about what your child sees, what those objects do, and where those items are located to foster language growth and expansion. On those cold days, take your game inside and describe items seen in the house or in one of these homemade I Spy tubes: http://www.meetthedubiens.com/2010/11/i-spy-bottles.html. Your child will love hunting for different items and sharing details about them with you.
Enjoy!
