Hi Seniors,

We hope you’re excited about STEM Arts Night 2021! As a part of the STAN tradition, seniors perform a short act together at the end of the show. Since the show will be virtual this year, the class of 2021 show will look somewhat different. This year’s act will be a video filled with singing, dancing, rapping, instrumentals, acting, and so much more! Unlike previous years however, we don’t plan on centering the performance around a skit detailing our Blair experience. While many of these aspects will still present themselves within the show, Senior Act as a whole will be a much shorter production with 1-3 songs. The video will also consist of your testimonies, videos, and pictures from your high school experience!

We’re looking for seniors to fill the following roles (and more!):

We will be holding a preliminary information session on Thursday, February 11 at 4 PM to gauge interest and brainstorm ideas for the final act - bring your friends! We’ll also dive further into our current vision for Senior Act.

Here’s the Zoom link for Thursday: https://mcpsmd.zoom.us/j/94812271521?pwd=SnRadXpNK01MZ0V1UVdFYWp4V3ZpZz09

Make sure to stop by with any new ideas you may have and let us know how exactly you’d like to get involved. Contact us at stemartsnight@gmail.com for any further questions.

We can’t wait to hear from you,

Yalissa and Yuri

Dr. Zaelzer

The meeting of art & Science

Tuesday December 8, 2020 at 2:45pm

Dr. Zaelzer was born in Chile and eventually made his way to U Chicago to earn his PhD studying the structure and biophysics of ion channels.  His love and passion for science and art led Dr. Zaelzer to found the Convergence Initiative to inspire collaboration between artists and neuroscientists to make neuroscience research more accessible to the public.  I hope you all enjoy this talk as much as I did a few months ago.

Introducing the annual STEM Arts Night!

STEM Arts Night is an annual talent show held to showcase the artistic ability of STEM students and to show the world we’re more than just algorithms and equations. Magnet and STEM academy students are invited to audition for the onstage show and submit works of art to the gallery as well!

If you’ve never participated in this show before, this is a great experience to perform with friends, have fun, and share what you love to do with others around you! Acts in the past include singing, rapping, cultural and popular dance, instrumental pieces, stand up poetry, comedy, martial arts, and more! The art show accepts all mediums of art from oil paintings to pottery to photography. Last year we had hundreds of cranes hanging from the ceiling! We accept everything and anything :)

Tentative Dates:

Auditions: February 23-25 (Tues-Thurs)

Dress: March 18 (Thurs)

Show: March 19 (Fri)

We will be updating everyone on the format of the auditions and show as we get closer to February. Please fill out the following google form to let us know how you would like to get involved: https://forms.gle/PKN71QBaJKADzHWq9. Below this email, you will find descriptions of the many ways you can participate.
