Scott Morgan Johnson Middle School
McKinney, Texas
At Scott Johnson Middle School in McKinney, Texas, Tiger P.R.I.D.E. is a way of life. By focusing on perseverance, respect, integrity, determination, and excellence (P.R.I.D.E.), students are trained even before setting foot on campus that all Johnson Tigers band together to live out these values in all we do. These qualities are planted early through our elementary campus visits and our Cub Camp orientation for incoming students. In 2013, SJMS was named a NASSP Met-Life Break Through School for academic performance. Furthermore, P.R.I.D.E. values are interwoven throughout our College-Readiness AVID program, and are celebrated in our quarterly campus awards. Scott Johnson Middle School - a campus with diverse students, of which over 50% are identified as children that are Low Socioeconomic - has high expectations for all students, despite a demographically challenging student population. Student leaders in our AVID program demonstrate core character values that have helped build a culture and climate of relationships, accountability, family, and student success. Our college-bound AVID program is a school-wide culture that helps ALL students and is the reason that SJMS has been named an International AVID Demonstration School. Additionally, in 2015, SJMS has been named A School To Watch by the National Forum and the Department of Education.
