Staff Bios

Eric Boswell, Director

Mr. Boswell is the band director at Maumee HS and Gateway Middle School. Prior to starting at Maumee in 2015, he spent 10 years as a band director at Wauseon Middle School and High School. Mr. Boswell teaches 6th grade beginner band, 7th grade band, 8th grade band, Marching Band, MHS Concert Band, Gateway Middle School Jazz Band and Maumee High School Jazz Band. He graduated with a music education degree from BGSU (cum laude) in May of 2005 and completed a Masters Degree in Educational Administration in the Summer of 2011 from BGSU (magna cum laude). A bass trombone major, he studied with Jeff Kurka and Bill Mathis while at BGSU. While at BGSU, he performed in ensembles under the direction of Dr. Bruce Moss, Dr. Carol Hayward, Dr. Ken Thompson, Dr. Emily Freeman Brown, and Dr. William Skoog. A native of Bowling Green, he lives there with his wife, Courtney, who is a choir director with Bowling Green City Schools. They have a son- Cole, who was born in October of 2008, a daughter- Gracelyn, born in December 2012, another son- Lachlan, born in 2018 and a chocolate lab named Molly. In his free time Mr. Boswell enjoys jogging, following the Cincinnati Reds, and spending time with his family.

Alexis Deffenbaugh- Assistant Band Director

Ms. Deffenbaugh is new to the Maumee Band Program, and formerly taught elementary music at Fairfield and Wayne Trail in Maumee. In the spring of 2021, she was a student teacher with the Maumee Band. After that, she graduated from BGSU with her degree in Music Education. At home, she spends time crafting, quilting, and relaxing with her cats, Leo and Luna. Music has always been a large passion of Ms. Deffenbaugh’s and she is so excited to share that with everyone this year!
