Mr. Malio's Grading Policy: Letter grades for each trimester will be calculated based on the following categories:
Test average: 50% of your grade
Quiz and lab average: 25% of your grade
Homework: 15% of your grade
Class participation: 10% of your grade.
Mr. Malio's Test and Quiz Re-Take Policy:
Your test average counts for 50% of your trimester grade. Expect between 3 and 4 tests each trimester.
Your quiz average counts for 25% of your trimester grade. Expect more than 4 quizzes per trimester.
All test and quiz grades below a 70% can be re-taken by any student.
The highest grade a student can receive on the make-up assessment is a 70%.
Mr. Malio's Homework Policy:
Your homework average counts for 15% of your trimester grade.
Homework in Mr. Malio’s class serves two purposes:
a review of the concepts taught in class
a preview of material to be taught in class
Homework is a demonstration of your responsibility, it is expected to be passed in the day it is due.
I am looking for effort, not correct answers.
If an assignment is not passed in on time, it can be passed in during the following class period for half credit. It may not seem like much but half credit on a homework assignment might be the difference between an A- and a B+ so take advantage of the opportunity.
You can expect to have science homework almost every night. Expect to spend 20-30 minutes each night doing assignments for science.
Missing homework due to absences:
When absent, you will be provided with a reasonable amount of time to pass in missing work. For example if you are absent 1 day, you have 1 day to make up homework; when absent for 2 days, you have 2 days to make up homework.
Please see your teacher after an absence longer than 2 days to make up class work and homework and to determine due dates.
When absent, it is a student’s responsibility to determine what work he/she has missed. They should use their resources (friends, this website, etc.) to help prevent from falling behind. With some absences, you may still be able to get work done at home. Do the responsible thing!
Mr. Malio's Class Participation Policy:
Class participation counts for 10% of your grade
All Masconomet classroom and school rules apply in Science class (rules are in your student handbook).
Come to class with a positive attitude ready to participate in class activities.
Come to class prepared by bringing materials (notebook, pen or pencil, and paper) and completed homework assignments to class.
Your behavior should show respect for the rights of others to learn and the teacher to teach.
Every day, you should make a positive contribution to our class. This is done by asking questions, answering questions and helping out your classmates.
