SPARTAN SPRING MUSIC FESTIVAL
We are so very excited to present our Spartan Spring Music Festival on Saturday, May 11th! Our students have been working so very hard these past few months to put on a series of concerts that will show their hard work, celebrate our 8th graders, and close out the school year with some amazing music. Your child should have received call times (arrival) from their director(s), but the performance times are below:
BANDS - 9:00AM
CHOIRS - 11:30AM
ORCHESTRAS - 2:00PM
REQUIRED PERFORMANCE ATTIRE
Music Dept. polo shirt, tucked in all the way around
BLACK pants/skirt - no patterns, rips, holes, distress; no leggings, yoga pants, sweatpants; skirts must be knee-length or longer
Black shoes - white soles and laces are fine
All performances will take place in the gymnasium, the Southside PTA will be serving refreshments for purchase in the cafeteria between performances, and our Music Boosters group, SPAS, will be available in our front lobby. There is no cost, but donations are gratefully accepted. We will also have a 50/50 raffle as well. And if you're interested in SPAS, they will be available to answer any questions you may have about supporting Southside's Music Department. We can't wait to see you!

MIOSM Festival: Bringing Our School Communities Together Through Music
Southside will be hosting a Music in Our Schools Month Music Festival on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 2:00pm in our Gymnasium. The Middle School at Parkside and McLaughlin Middle School will be joining us for this special series of Band, Chorus, and Orchestra performances highlighting the importance of Music Education in our schools. We are so very excited to hold what we hope to be a yearly event showcasing the tremendous effort and skill of our young musicians. (Permission slips have already gone out and been collected.) We hope to see you there!

SPARTAN PERFORMING ARTS SUPPORTERS (SPAS) OPEN HOUSE
Do you feel a bit out of touch and lost at sea as a middle school parent/guardian of a performing music student? Let us toss you a lifeline! The Spartan Performing Arts Supporters, affectionately known as SPAS, is a group of parent/guardian volunteers who assist the SMS Music Department with concerts, parades, fundraisers, and other events. Please join us for our SPAS Open House on Wednesday, November 29th at 6:00pm in Room 101 for light refreshments and a chance to see what we are all about! You can help us “orchestrate” a great year, jump on the “band” wagon to find out why people “sing” the praises of Southside’s Music Department.
Our regularly scheduled meetings take place on Wednesdays at 6:00pm and last a half hour or less:

Not only will you meet other parents and guardians of performing students, you will also have a chance to communicate directly with our directors, learn more about the SMS Music Department, and help to navigate the financial and budgetary issues faced by our music students, their directors, and Southside. We look forward to meeting you!
If you can't make it but would like to be included in the mailing list, an announcement will go home before the Thanksgiving break with a form for you to detach and return to your child's director so you can stay in the loop.
