Climate Change (GEOG/GEOL 41A)

GEOL/GEOG 41a-- Not offered in Spring 2014

An introduction to the current science of climate change. Topics include basic processes of weather and climate, measures of climate and climate change, natural and human-induced processes of climate change.

Upon completion of this course a student will be able to:

  1. Explain the processes through which the Sun heats Earth's surface and atmosphere.

  2. Explain the natural and human-enhanced greenhouse effect in the atmosphere.

  3. Describe and evaluate use of instrument data and proxy measures of climate change.

  4. Evaluate the role of natural phenomena in past and present climate change.

  5. Assess the evidence of human influence on weather and climate.

  6. Evaluate potential impacts and responses to climate change.
