Hello Heights Families
We have some exciting projects coming up in Science and Social Studies, and our third graders will need a few supplies to help bring their learning to life! If you are able, please consider donating cardboard (any size) and clay for our classroom. These materials will be used in hands-on projects where students can create, explore, and apply what they are learning. Thank you so much for your support!
On Tuesday and Wednesday, we are finishing Lesson 1: Forces and Motion on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Tuesday: We will review and take our vocabulary test (words are available on Google Classroom).
Wednesday: Students will compare the distances that a wind-up toy travels in different amounts of time. If time allows, we will begin Lesson 2: Forces Can Change Motion, where students will explore how applying force to an object changes its motion.
On Thursday and Friday, we will wrap up our Maps and Globes lesson from last week by reading further about their importance. Students will then use clay to create a three-dimensional map showing the landforms of Arizona. Afterward, we will start Lesson 2: How does my community fit into my country?
👉 For this activity, please send students with cardboard material that can serve as the base for their map project.
Thank you for your continued support in helping make these lessons hands-on and engaging!
We will continue exploring our communities this week (Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday). Because of MAP testing, we are still working on Lesson 1: Where is my community and where is it located?
As a class, we will write a paragraph together explaining the difference between maps and satellite images.
📌 Project of the Week:
Students will create a map of their community. Their maps should include:
A title
A legend (key) to explain symbols
A scale to show distance
A compass rose (north arrow) for orientation
Due Date: Completed community maps are due Wednesday, August 25.
Lesson 2: Las fuerzas pueden cambiar el movimiento | Forces Can Change Motion
Big Question: ¿Cómo se deslizan tan rápido por el tobogán?
(How do they slide so quickly down the slide?)
From Wednesday to Friday, students will:
Observe and measure how objects move
Recognize that when a force is applied to an object, its motion changes
Explore different scenarios and make observations about how motion is affected
By the end of the lesson, students will revisit the Big Question and explain their understanding:
¿Cómo se deslizan tan rápido por el tobogán?
📌 Please note: We will continue this lesson into next week.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call or email Claudia Ramos.

Hello Parents!
Welcome to the third week of school!
This week, we will switch to our Social Studies Curriculum | IMPACTO. The first section is an introduction about being an explorer and an investigator for Social Studies. This chapter is titled MOTIVAR. We will frame questions and plan an inquiry about our communities by posting the question Why is it important to know our communities? We will dig deeper and investigate by asking the following questions.
Where is my community and where is it located?
How does my community fit in the country?
How does the weather impact my community
Main Question: How does the resource around my community impact it?
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call or email Claudia Ramos.
Gracias!
