Heights students wear school uniforms. When purchasing school uniforms, we ask that you select items from the “School Uniform Section'' of a store and not just look for clothes that match the color of the uniform. For example, basketball shorts and sweatpants come in navy blue, but are not considered uniform style clothing. The options are as follows:
Tops: White, navy or red collared shirt, blouse, turtleneck, or mock turtleneck.
Bottoms: All bottoms are to be of school uniform style. Navy or khaki shorts, skort, skirts, pants, jumpers, capri pants or dresses. (Joggers, leggings, sweatpants, jeans are not acceptable uniform style bottoms)
Shoes: Shoes should be worn at all times. They should ensure that students are able to walk to class safely and participate in all classes. Slippers, shoes with skates, slides and flip-flop style sandals are not permitted.
Non-uniform clothing that is worn underneath the uniform. Examples include undershirts and leggings/tights. All undershirts must be a uniform color – red, navy blue, or white. All leggings/tights must be a solid color. Permitted colors for leggings/tights to be worn underneath uniform bottoms are –red, navy blue, white or black. Jeans and other denim items may only be worn on designated PTO fundraiser $1 dress days and/or picture days.
Hats are permitted on school grounds except they are not to be worn in any school building. This includes all headwear: hats, caps, bandanas, hoods.
Students wearing any items that interfere with school activities will be asked to remove the item:
PowerSchool is updated frequently. Please make sure that you are checking on your child's progress. If you have questions, please message one of the 3rd grade teachers.
REMINDER: School email addresses are only to be used for schoolwork. Please remind students that they should not be emailing each other with personal messages.
Smartwatches!
Parents, please make sure to set your students smartwatch to school mod during the day. Students are not allowed to talk or text their parents during the school workday. Thank you!
Students need to keep a pair of headphones in their backpack. Please help check that they place them back after using them at home.

📌 Math Policies at a Glance
Math Homework
Where do students find their homework?
Students write assignments in their homework log every day (I model this with them in class to ensure it’s complete).
Students complete the assigned daily page from the homework book and return to me the following day.
Homework is also updated weekly on my class website.
What about the optional leveled pages?
After the district MAP test, I created different groups and began offering optional leveled homework pages (reteach or challenge).
These optional pages are not written in the homework log and are not posted on the website.
What if my child loses the page or forgets it at school?
They can always fall back on the regular homework listed in the homework log or on the website.
Do they have to do both?
No — students only need to complete one assignment (either regular or optional).
Test Retakes
What can my child retake?
Only chapter tests (no quizzes or other assignments).
How do they access the retake?
A Google Form sent to their school email.
Look for an email from Kendra Dulin or K Dulin titled “Invitation to fill out form.”
How many times can they retake?
Students may take the test as many times as they want, but I will only consider the first and second attempts.
I will record the better score of those two attempts.
Is retaking required?
No, it’s optional.
What’s the deadline?
All retakes must be completed by September 25th (end of the quarter).
What if a test is missing?
A zero will show temporarily in PowerSchool as a reminder.
The lowest grade I will record permanently is 50%.
I recommend saving or printing this reference so you have it handy. As always, please reach out if you have any questions!

Unit 2 Week 3 & Week 4
Essential Question: Why do people immigrate to new places?
For these two weeks our class will be learning about why people immigrate to new places. Immigration is an important part of our country’s history. We will read different texts in the genre of historical fiction.
Here are some resources that you can use with your child to help reinforce the skills we’ll be practicing.
Word Workout
Vocabulary Help your child use the words to write a story about a student who just started at your school.
Spiral Review: In this activity, you and your child will use the spiral review words to tell how people vote for their community leaders.
If you have arrived, you made it to a place.
To have inspected something is to have looked at it very closely.
If someone whispered, he or she spoke in a low voice.
A moment is a very short amount of time.
Photographs are pictures taken with a camera.
Something that is valuable is worth a high price.
Immigrated means “came to a new country to live.”
An opportunity is a chance to do or try something.
Spelling Words
Week 3: Words with silent letters Help your child make a three-column chart of the words sorted by their silent letters. Your child will sort words that include wr, kn, and gn.
Week 4: Words with three-letter blends Have your child study the words for a few minutes. Then you will say a blend, and your child will write down as many words as he or she can remember with that three-letter blend.
The U2W3 word list of the week is as following:
wrap wrists wrote wreck wring write wreath knit knife knight knock knee gnome sign gnaws
Review heel weak field
Challenge wristwatch knapsack
The U2W4 word list of the week is as following:
scrubs screams scratch scrape screen spread splash spray streak strength strong squeak three throw thread
Review wrote knife sign
Challenge streamer scribble
Comprehension: Theme
Help your child read a story about moving to America. Work together to complete the chart with details from the story. Then identify the story’s theme.
