Week 1 August 6- 9
Dear Parents,
I am so excited to have the opportunity to get to know you and your student this school year.
This week we will build our classroom community by focusing on various activities in which the students will get to know each other and myself. These activities will strengthen old relationships and foster new friendships. We will also focus on learning our classroom rules and expectations. Our classroom will focus on what it looks like, sounds like, and feels like to be responsible, respectful, and safe.
This Wednesday is our Back to School Night. I hope to see you all in your child’s classroom, room B-204, from 6-7. During this time, we will go over some general information about Madison Simis, as well as our classroom.
I look forward to working along with you and getting to know your student.
Much Appreciation,
Ms. Vanore
Week 2: August 12- 16
Dear Parents,
I am so excited to start another week!
This week in reading we will focus on identifying character traits. We will read a variety of stories and reference the text to answer questions about how the character/s contributed to the events that occurred in the story. We will focus on identifying the character/s traits, motivations, and feelings.
In writing we will begin developing a personal narrative. Students will brainstorm, plot out the events that took place and use that story map to create a piece of writing that is a true recollection of something that happened in their life. We will complete a few of these narratives before students move through the writing process. Once we have worked with narratives for a week weeks, students will edit and revise their own writing, work with two different partners to edit and revise each other’s writings, and then finally create a final product. Once this is complete, students will present to the class and they will offer appropriate feedback. Please be sure to check Seesaw once this is uploaded.
In math we will focus on developing number sense and deepening our understanding of place value. We will begin to add numbers up to 1,000. We will also use our understanding of numbers to solve multiple step word problems and strengthen mental computation by using rounding.
We will begin learning about our first IB unit on culture. During this unit students will learn about some of the Ancient civilizations, some of the cultures and traditions people participate in around the world, and the importance of music in cultures.
Much Appreciation,
Ms. Vanore
