Grading and Homework Policy

Grading and Homework for Ms. Pallas’s Class

2018/2019

Language Arts

    • Grades will be based on Classwork, Homework, Participation, Quizzes and Tests

      • Homework is assigned Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

      • It should take students as little as 10 but no more than 30 minutes to complete homework each night.

      • Class work - writing or “Your Turn” worksheets will be done in class and if it is not completed in class it should be finished up at home and be done for the following class day. Do not work ahead in classwork.

      • Grammar and Spelling worksheets will be given as homework. The worksheets for the week will be given on Monday and may be completed early but not late, with one being due each day. (Ex: page 7 due Tuesday, page 8 due Wednesday ….)

      • Quizzes will be about every two weeks and used to assess learning.

      • Tests will be once or twice a term.

      • All late, missing, or incomplete work will be marked as that in the grade book and earn a failing score. These cannot be re-done, it will be important that everything is completed and in class on time. (excludes absences)

Social Studies

    • Grades will be based on Classwork, Homework, Participation, Quizzes and Tests

      • Most work will be done in class.

      • Participation in this class is important and my lessons include partner or team activities.

      • If a student does not use class time well or requires extended time to complete an assignment it can be finished as homework but homework will not be assigned regularly from this class.

      • Quizzes will happen for vocabulary or practiced skills. (This can be studied at home.)

      • Tests will happen a few each term and will be based on the over all concepts learned. (This also can be studied at home.)

Use of Student Planner, folders, grades and keeping in contact

    • Students will fill out their planners at the start of the week for the entire week.

      • Some things may change but having students use the planner to stay organized is an important skill.

      • Planner will also be used for communication so please check it regularly for notes from the teacher.

      • Students will have a blue folder for Language Arts and a red folder for Social Studies. Please do not clean out your child’s folder for them. No other subjects should be kept in the blue or red folder.

      • Parents should check PowerSchool weekly to be aware of their child’s grades. I recommend getting the app., it will make it easy and quick to keep up to date on how your child is doing in all of their classes.

      • Check my website for my “Week at a Glance” or how to get the Language Arts book online.

      • Email me anytime with questions or concerns.
