"Seeds for a Song" Fundraiser

The Lynchburg Bird Club will have its annual seed sale on Saturday, November 11, 2023.  Seed sale order forms will be mailed around the end of October to club members and folks who have purchased seed in the past.  A printable PDF version of the Seed Sale Order Form is posted below.  The club appreciates your support as this is our only fundraiser to enable yearly donations to several birding organizations and rehabilitation centers.

**NEW BEGINNING 2022: Please bring your completed Seed Sale Order Form + payment when you come to pick up your seed the day of the sale. Seed must be picked up between 9:00 a.m. and noon at George's Seed, Feed, & Grow Shop (previously named Aylor's Farm Store) located at 16075 Forest Road (US-221), Forest, VA. George's offers fresh, current-year seed which will delight your birds.  On pickup day, stop by the Bird Club's cashier table inside the store to pay for your order. LBC volunteers will then help load your seed into your vehicle. Credit card transactions on the day of the sale will incur a 3% surcharge. Checks should be made payable to the "Lynchburg Bird Club".

Seed Descriptions:

Black Oil Sunflower is considered the #1 best all-round choice to attract the greatest variety of birds to your feeder. They are rich in oil and give birds added energy. In addition, their thin shell makes it easier for even smaller birds to crack them open.

Striped Sunflower seeds will attract larger birds such as Northern Cardinals, Blue Jays, and Red-bellied Woodpeckers, with beaks powerful enough to break open their larger shell.

Sunflower Chips, which is the heart of the seed with no hull, makes for less mess around a feeder if that is a concern, such as a window feeder or deck.

Wild bird seed and Songbird Deluxe Bird Seed mixtures are the perfect multi-purpose choice to attract birds at the feeder or on the ground. These mixes contain millet, sunflower, and some other types of seeds.

White Millet seed is a good choice for ground-feeding birds, such as Sparrows, Eastern Towhees, Dark-eyed Juncos, and Mourning Doves.

Safflower seed is popular with Northern Cardinals, and will also appeal to Finches and Mourning Doves. In general, safflower seed does not attract squirrels.

Nyjer (thistle) seed is a Finch favorite and will bring in American Goldfinches, House and Purple Finches, and if we're lucky, Pine Siskins.

Peanut Splits and Peanuts in the Shell are popular with Woodpeckers and Blue Jays.

Several types of suet cakes are also available and these will attract Woodpeckers, Nuthatches, Carolina Chickadees, Tufted Titmice, Carolina Wrens, and others depending upon the composition.
