The following supplies are required for Strings class, and should be brought to class everyday unless otherwise noted.
1. Instrument - Cello/Bass players may leave their personal instrument at home, violin/viola players are required to bring their instrument every day.
2. Book: 5th Grade:Essential Elements for Strings Book 1 (the one with the Orange stripe)
6th Grade: Essential Elements for Strings Book 2 (the one with the Purple stripe)
3. Folding Music Stand - for practicing at home. This should be left at home, as stands will be provided while at school.
4. Instrument Name Tag - Clearly marked with Name/Address/Phone Number
5. Pencil - for recording practice and class assignments
6. Rosin - Please buy rosin for your specific instrument. Bass - Pop’s Rosin is recommended
7. Cleaning Cloth - Used for cleaning after playing. Items you may have at home that will work:
wash cloth; cotton sock; cloth diaper
8. Shoulder Rest (violin/viola ONLY) - Recommended brands: Everest, Kun, of Fom
(Hint: shoulder rests can be fragile, transport them in a small bag OR an old pencil box to prevent breakage)
9. Rock Stop (cello/bass ONLY) - keeps instrument from slipping on (and scratching) floors
10. Cloth Music Bag - for transporting supplies
11. A music folder will be provided to your student at the beginning of the year. If they lose or damage it, it will be the student’s responsibility to replace it.
12. OPTIONAL - It is recommended (but not required) that a student have a 3 ring binder with plastic sheet protectors in which they store the sheet music they are given over the course of the year. A student may use the 3 ring binder in place of a music folder.
These supplies can be purchased at most music store. Additionally, they can be purchased online at Meyer Music's Online School Store and your order will be sent to your child's school.
