4th Grade

During this 5 week course, the DARE officer will review topics from the second grade lessons with the students. Furthermore, the DARE officer will set the framework for the sixth grade lessons by touching on two main drugs: tobacco, and alcohol. The lessons will focus on the following topics:

Stranger danger inside the house:

  • Being home alone, following the house rules, emergency numbers, and gun safety

Stranger danger outside the house:

  • Permission to leave, buddy system, safe places to play, and bike helmet safety

Good touch bad touch:

  • What’s the difference? Where should someone touch you? Can you say stop?
  • What you do if someone tells you not to tell.

Drugs:

  • Define what a drug is and talk about the effects that tobacco and alcohol have on the body

Decision making and conflict management:

  • Have you ever been angry?
  • Why do you think that happened?
  • What can you do to deal with our anger?
  • What are some compromises you can use to deal with a dispute?

Internet Safety:

Students are introduced to potential dangers on the internet.
