Checkout Policies and Procedures
Fifth and sixth grade students may check out two books at a time. Seventh and eighth grade students may check out up to two books at at time. ( Note this has been changed from four books to two due to quarantining of books during COVID.
We respect parents' wishes when it comes to reading material. However, please be aware that since we serve students from ages 9-15, there are books in the school library and available through the ONE Access program that contain mature content. For the most part, physical copies of novels intended for students ages 14 and older are kept in a separate High School section. Please keep in mind, however, that age recommendations may vary depending on the source.
Parents and/or Guardians - please talk with your students and make sure that they are aware of your expectations.
Students - please respect your parents' and/or guardians' wishes and understand we go by the honor code. If you know you're not supposed to read a certain book, do not check it out.
Lost or Damaged Books
Students who check out a book and lose it or damage it are responsible for replacement or payment. Fines are assessed near the end of the year after reasonable attempts have been made to recover the book. Please do not send in payment unless you are certain that the book was lost or damaged. Very often, books turn up from the lost and found, teachers' classrooms, and common spaces. Fine notices, where applicable, will be sent out in May.
Book Requests
Our library collection is both patron driven, which means that teachers and students may request books to add to our collection. Mrs. Perrotta reviews the requests periodically and may add the books to our collection if they are appropriate and high-interest. The book request form is linked above.
