NOW OPEN!
The Horatio Alger Association is seeking students who display integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity, and plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree. Students must have financial need and a determination to turn adversity into opportunity and pursue their American Dream. If you know students that you believe would be great candidates, please share this information with them and encourage them to apply.
Application Deadline: February 15, 2026
Be enrolled full time as a high school senior in the United States
Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor’s degree at one of the target colleges/universities on our website (complete list can be found here: Senior Scholarships)
Demonstrate financial need ($100,000 or lower household income)
Be involved in co-curricular and community service activities
Display integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity
Minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0
Be a United States citizen

Do you know a student who would make a great teacher? The Golden Apple Scholars Program in New Mexico is designed to provide the support network and career preparation these future educators need to succeed.
When students become Golden Apple Scholars, they join a community of talented peers who share their passion for teaching. Together, they embark on a transformative journey, providing each other encouragement and guidance every step of the way. This built-in support network is just one of the many benefits of the Golden Apple Scholars Program in New Mexico.

Golden Apple Scholars Receive:
Mentoring from outstanding teaching faculty
A supportive network of peers who are also pursuing a teaching career
Paid summer professional development each summer of their undergraduate experience, including hands-on instruction from award-winning teachers and experience teaching and leading in their own communities
Undergraduate support
Job placement assistance
Who is Eligible?
Students attending Illinois schools who are high school seniors, college freshmen/sophomores, or community college students
U.S. citizen, eligible non-citizen, or DACAmented student and resident of New Mexico
Students who complete and submit their applications by December 1, 2025, will receive a priority application review and be eligible for an Early Acceptance Offer.

NMSU Scholarship Opportunities
I would love to see your students apply for admission to New Mexico State University! NMSU consistently provides one of the best educational values in the country. In order to maximize scholarship opportunities with us, please encourage your high school seniors to complete the following steps before December 1.
Apply to NMSU - we're waiving the application fee until December 1*.
Email a copy of high school transcripts and SAT or ACT scores (if available) to admissions@nmsu.edu.
Once admitted, create a myNMSU account (needed for the next step).
Submit the completed Scholar Dollar$ application by 11:59 p.m. (Mountain Time) on Monday, December 1, 2025.
*The application fee waiver applies only to domestic applicants. International applicants are required to pay a $50 application fee.
