Dec. 4
As we enter December and the semester winds down, we wanted to share with you some valuable FAFSA and other financial aid information to assist your students; particularly those graduating in the Spring.
Scholarship Tips
Start Early: If they haven’t already, encourage students to begin their scholarship search now. There are more scholarships coming online over the coming weeks they won’t want to miss out on.
Application Strategy: It can be tempting to just apply to those big dollar, no essay scholarships, but students stand a much better chance of winning if they apply for local, more specific matches that require a bit more time and effort.
Personalize Applications: A strong personal statement tailored to the specific scholarship can set students apart. Students should lean into the essay! This is something they will need for their college application, too.
FAFSA Updates and Reminders
FAFSA Simplification: This year’s FAFSA has undergone significant changes to simplify the application process. It’s open now, so be sure to encourage students and families to file as soon as possible to maximize their aid eligibility.
Key Deadlines: Remind families to check federal, state, and institutional deadlines to avoid missing critical opportunities.
Student Aid Report (SAR): After submission, students should review their SAR carefully to ensure all information is correct and to understand their Expected Family Contribution (EFC).
Calculate Student Aid: Parents can use the Federal Student Aid Estimator to determine how much federal aid they will qualify for.
Check out these scholarships with deadlines approaching for December:
View Scholarships with December Deadlines
Check out the ever-evolving list of scholarships for high school seniors:

We’d love to partner with you in ensuring your students are well-prepared for these processes. Let us know how we can assist you with an online webinar on these topics tailored for your school and students. You can email me directly with questions or to schedule a call or video meeting.
As always, if you don’t already, we hope you will consider linking to Scholarships.com on your school’s website as a valuable resource for students, parents, and educators.

Nov. 6
I hope all is well! I wanted to reach out and give a friendly reminder that the application deadline for the UNM Combined BA/MD Degree Program is this Thursday, November 7, at 5:00pm. If you have any students who are applying for the program, it may be beneficial to check in with them and make sure that they are on track to complete the application on time. Ideally, they should submit the application sometime tomorrow in case they run into any technological issues, but we would encourage them to at least try to submit it Thursday morning or early afternoon. We all know last minute can be extra stressful and we want to avoid a high volume of traffic on the website causing issues for the students!
If there are any lingering questions about the application, we will be hosting an open Zoom Q&A time tomorrow, November 6, from 11:30am to 1:00pm for drop-ins. I will include the information for that below. Please feel free to share with any of your students who are applying for the program! We also send out an email to all applicants yesterday with the Zoom information, so hopefully they saw that as well.
Topic: Application Drop In
Time: Nov 6, 2024 11:30 AM Mountain Time (US and Canada)
