Parents play an important role when it comes to preventing and responding to bullying. Here at Lordsburg Municipal Schools, we are strongly against bullying. If you come discover or question that your child is involved in bullying, there are numerous assets that may help.
What Is Bullying
Bullying is acting in an aggressive behavior towards others. This behavior is repeated often leaving the victim hurt or put down.
What Are The Signs?
· Unexplained injuries
· Destroyed or lost property
· Change in eating habits
· Declining grades, loss of interest of schoolwork, or not wanting to go to school
· Harming themselves or talking about suicide
Prevent and Respond To Bullying
Bullying is everywhere; it can be found both in and out of school.
To prevent bullying:
· Help kids understand what it is.
· Check in with your kids often.
· Encourage kids to do what they love.
· Model how to treat others respectfully.
Respond to bullying by:
· Stop bullying immediately
· Find out what happened
· Be more than a bystander
· Support the kids involved
Where to Get Help
If someone is at immediate risk of harm, call 911.
If a child is getting bullied at school, contact the:
1. Teacher
2. School Counselor
3. School Principal
4. School Superintendent
5. State Department of Education
If someone is feeling hopeless, helpless, or thinking of hurting themselves contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline or at 1-800-273-TALK (8255). The 24- hour toll-free call goes to the nearest crises center in our national network.
If someone is acting differently than normal, find a local counselor or other mental health services.
