Each weekend, I send out an email to all 8th grade students and parents when I update this page. I generally update it on Sunday afternoon/evening with all of the plans for the next week. This way, students and their families know what is expected for the next seven days and can plan accordingly. I do not add unplanned homework and do not usually remove homework, so this information should be reliable for the next week. (If there is school cancellation or if I have made an error, I will update the website and usually will send out an email again). On the first day of each week (usually Monday), I ask students to write down all of their assignments for the next week in their student planner.

I have added optional enrichment activities to my Google Classrooms. If they are able, I encourage students to continue to learn during the two week shutdown. In particular, if they are able to continue to play Geniventure, that will help them to continue to learn about genetics.
I have also created a Google slideshow about the Coronavirus. I was already planning to conduct a lesson on this topic for Monday, but the school closure announcement came before I had a chance to do so. I have put it on my Google Classroom and also below.

The 8th Grade Team's Late Work Policy:
The eighth grade team's late work policy allows for late work to be turned in for credit only by the end of that calendar week. If a student misses an assignment on Monday, they will be allowed to turn it in by that Friday, four days later. If a student misses an assignment on a Thursday, they will be allowed to turn it in by that Friday, the next day.
Exceptions will be made for absences based on the rules in the student handbook. Work of greater importance (such as projects or research papers) may be given more time at the discretion of the teacher.
Note: If you are absent for multiple days and need more time, check with your teachers to get help and to set new due dates!
