Is your child 15 years old?
Is your child enrolled in Driver Education at LISLE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL?
Does the course start in 30 days or less
If you are able to answer "Yes" to all the above questions your child is eligible for a driving permit.
Permit application, cognitive tests and vision screening are done in person with Mrs. Hamann
Each student has two attempts to pass the permit test before they are sent to the Driving Facility
If your child is 18 years of age, they must go to the Facility for the test after receiving an application from Mrs. Hamann
OBTAINING AN INSTRUCTIONAL DRIVING PERMIT
Study Rules of the Road book (digital or printed)
A written test will be administered
$20.00 check made out to: SECRETARY OF STATE
Glasses or contacts if worn by the student.
A vision test will be administered
After the application and test is complete, each student must sign and have a parent sign the printed application
Permits will be delivered within a week
If a student fails the permit test twice, they must then take the test at a driving facility.
If your child is 18 years of age, they must go to the Facility for the test after receiving an application from Mrs. Hamann
***Each student must hold their permit for 9 months and a day prior to obtaining a driver's license.
During those nine months, each student is responsible for 50 hours of driving with a licensed driver in the front seat at least 21 years old or older.
Once you obtain an instructional driving permit - please detach the permit from the receipt and keep permit inside the given envelope. The student will need this permit EVERY TIME they are behind-the-wheel. The permit is printed on government issued security paper. The envelope helps protect the permit from natural wear and tear (even through a washing machine cycle- in case such an incident occurs).
I recommend KEEPING the permit receipt (the rest of the permit paper) in a safe place with your original birth certificate just in case one loses their envelope containing their instructional driving permit. The Secretary of State will be able to then issue a new copy of the original permit based on the information from the permit receipt. Mrs. Hamann cannot obtain additional permits if lost.
Without this receipt- the SoS may not be able to find the original permit and may have to issue a new permit to the student resulting in a new nine month time frame.
***It is prohibited to laminate or copy an official government document. Therefore, it is very important to maintain the one and only original issued
instructional driving permit until the student is eligible for a driver license.
