Jr. SODA

Jr. SODA represents living a tobacco, drug and alcohol free lifestyle

Jr. SODA is a volunteer program for all Oak Ridge students.  There are no group meetings required to participate, and students volunteer for Linn-Mar related events based on when their schedule allows.   If a student volunteers 12 hours during the school year, he/she will move to Honor SODA status.  Students must have a yellow Jr. SODA card to record volunteer hours, and those cards can be found in the counselors' offices.  Honor SODA guidelines are as follows:

1.       Student must be a member of Jr. SODA during the school year.

2.       Student must complete 12 community service hours through Linn-Mar before: TBD (end of April).

3.       In order to be eligible for Honor SODA celebration, student must be in good standing with all their teachers and building administrators.

4.       Students cannot be paid for the service they provide

5.       The following are examples of community service hours that qualify for Jr. SODA:

               a.       Volunteering at Elementary Fun Fair Nights

               b.       Volunteering at MS or HS concession stands during athletic events

               c.       Volunteering for a staff member in a Linn-Mar Community School building

               d.       Other school activities approved by Mr. Young

6.       The following are community service hours that do not qualify for Jr. SODA:

               a.        Babysitting for friends, relatives, neighbors

               b.       Doing housework at home OR for a neighbor or friend

               c.        Volunteering at church functions

               d.       Volunteering at Boy / Girl Scout functions

               e.        Volunteering at community non-profit organization

7.       The adult that supervises the activity should sign the card and leave a phone number where they can be contacted.  Not all adults will be  contacted to verify the hours, but students need to understand that they can be.  If there are questions or concerns, check with Mr. Young before doing the work to see if the hours will count.
