Jr. ALO

In 2016, a multicultural student leadership group called ALO (Accountability, Leadership, and Opportunity) was formed at Linn-Mar High School.


The primary focus of ALO is to put multicultural students in leadership positions throughout the Linn-Mar middle and high school(s), and provide opportunities for them to develop positive communities with one another. ALO also aims to develop its members to have strong connections in these 5 core areas: Community, Leadership, Service, Accountability, and Opportunity. While the goal of ALO is to create a culturally responsive community and opportunities where multicultural students can thrive, ALO is open and accepting of all students who would like to join and receive this same support.


In 2018, ALO expanded to both middle schools to help promote a smooth transition into high school, build positive community amongst multicultural students and expose more students to leadership opportunities they may not receive without ALO. The format for Jr. ALO will be as follows:


Jr. ALO Format:

  • Meet during Flex time 1-2x per month

  • 1 Fall College Visit (Oak Ridge and Excelsior combine for this visit)

  • 1 Fall Community Service Opportunity

  • 1 Spring College Visit (Oak Ridge and Excelsior combine for this visit)

  • 1 Spring Community Service Opportunity (Combined with Excelsior and the High School)
