3. Concerts

Leyden Choral/Music Department Concerts are found on the Leyden Choral Calendar and labeled with required attendance. Concerts are an extension of the curricular class, therefore you will receive full credit for your participation. Failure to attend a required event without a valid, written excuse (signed by a parent/guardian/doctor) fully explaining the absence, followed up by a conversation may result in the lowering of a student’s grade. Punctuality also impacts grades. Each case will be evaluated individually and a decision of the validity and legitimacy will be made by the choral directors in collaboration with a building administrator. A written note explaining, in full, any student absence must be received one week prior to the event in order for an excuse to be considered. In an emergency situation, a written note needs to be submitted within one week of the event.

NOTE: If you do not participate in a concert you can not receive the same grade as a participating student. Remember that your grade contains other components (see grades).

Concerts are worth 40% of your grade. Points are divided among attendance, punctuality, and participation. When you are early or on time to an event you will receive full credit (for that portion). Being on time is especially important in group situations. The group is not fully formed until all of its members are present. Students who are late and wish to be excused must submit a note signed by a parent or teacher. The request must contain sufficient information for the teachers to make an appropriate decision. If you are late, your grade will be adjusted.

Students who are absent from school are not permitted to participate in extracurricular activities or other school sponsored events on the day of an absence from school, unless they have prior permission from the Dean of Students

Conflicts - PLAN AHEAD! If you face the conflict of being in more the one school event, please talk to both faculty members in charge immediately. Usually performances, meets and games receive priority over rehearsals and practices. If a problem persists, the situation will be discussed by the choir teacher and the sponsor/coach of the conflicting activity to avoid placing the student in the middle. However, you will be held accountable for taking responsibility for communicating conflicts in a timely manner.

BE RESPONSIBLE!! Work is not an acceptable excuse. Please let your managers know well in advance of days you will be unable to work. (You have the calendar NOW!)

PLAN AHEAD!!!
