Have everything you need prior to class (i.e. pen, pencil, calculator...)
As soon as you get your test, write down any key information you want to remember at the top of the test (i.e. formulas, dates, names...)
Look over the entire test before you begin so you can manage your time
Put a dot next to any questions you are not sure of or what to review if time remains at the conclusion of the test
Review all answers.
Types of Tests
Multiple Choice Questions
Try to think of the answer in your head prior to reading the choices
Read all of the choices. Not sure which answer is right, cross out the choices you know are wrong and make an educated guess
True/False Questions
Look for key words.
Open Book Questions
Use sticky to mark important information in the book
Highlight key information in your notebook
Create a one page reference sheet
Essay Questions
Read each question first. Start with the easiest one first, if possible
Brainstorm prior to writing. Write down key information you wish to include.
Write in complete sentences
Use a three paragraph format when in doubt. First paragraph - present what will be learned in your essay. Second paragraph - details to support the point you are making. Three paragraph - Draw conclusions and restate important information.

Draw a picture or diagram to help you understand the problem
Do not spend too much time on any one question. Answer the questions you know first, then go back and work on the more difficult questions.
If you have time, review all your answers and make sure you are not leaving anything out. (i.e. units of measure, is there a questions to be answered)
