Dear Elementary/Middle School/Junior High Band Director,

I am very excited to contact you regarding the Lenox Junior High Honor Band on Saturday, March 12, 2022. As in the past, we will have two bands, but this year we plan to divide the bands according to years of experience rather than grade level. The guest clinicians will be Donald Fisher, Director of Instrumental Studies at Iowa Western Community College, from Council Bluffs, Iowa, directing the 1st/2nd year band and Jim Kucera, Director of Bands at Scott Middle School, from Lincoln, Nebraska, directing the 3rd/4th year band. Each of these directors are very fine musicians and will make this a great experience for your students.

The student applications will be online. The website is goo.gl/2gLMCZ and will take you to the Lenox High School Band website to the honor band portion. There you will find a student application form on Google forms along with a director information form. We have streamlined this process, so feel free to contact me with any of your needs. This year we do not have a limit on student nominations. As with most honor bands, we are in need of horn, oboe, bassoon, tuba, trombone, baritone and bass clarinet players. Typically we have a large number of percussionists and alto saxophones nominated, so as much detail as you can give me regarding your students would be very helpful. Please feel free to make notes on any student’s application.

Don’t forget to have students check their calendars to make sure they are able to attend the honor band if they are selected. I want to have as many students involved in this event as possible, and students who cancel take that opportunity away from someone else. The cost for the honor band is $15 per accepted student.

The Lenox Performing Arts Boosters will be serving lunch and dinner to all students, and the registration fee covers that. Lunch will include a sub sandwich, chips, cookie and drink. Dinner will include super nachos with ground beef, lettuce, salsa, sour cream, jalapeños, and an ice cream cup with a drink. Please let me know in advance if there are any dietary concerns, so the boosters are able to make arrangements for your student(s) in advance. In addition, the boosters will have a concession stand available for students to purchase snacks and drinks during breaks.

I would like all nomination forms done by Friday, January 14th, please. I hope to have the bands selected shortly after the deadline. As soon as I have the band personnel chosen, I will email you a list of those students selected. I will send the music soon after to give your students ample time to prepare for the March 12th festival.

If you have any questions regarding this event, please don’t hesitate to call or email. Thank you, and I really look forward to seeing you at this fantastic event!

Sincerely,

Tim McConnaughey, Director of Bands at Lenox Community Schools
