My name is Tarie Barbour (pronounced barber) and I am thrilled to be starting my tenth year at Leander Middle School. I love being one of the old teachers here!
I was born in Wiesbaden, Germany and later grew up on Hamilton and Travis AFBs, then Napa, California. As an adult, I have lived in Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas. My husband is a career retired Army Lieutenant Colonel (currently working as a planner at the Texas Department of Emergency Management. I have been teaching since 1991 and have taught in Durant, Oklahoma- Gallup, New Mexico- Mustang, Oklahoma- and Leander, Texas.
I have three adult children of my own and I understand the frustrations of feeling left out of the learning process. I will do my best to keep in contact. Please feel free to contact me at any time. You are never interrupting and I love to hear from you!
My email is: tarie.barbour@leanderisd.org and I am far more likely to see an email that a message left on my phone.
I believe that a successful 7th grade year sets students on the correct path to high school. Middle school is tough and it will take the teachers and the parents working in tandem to help students manage their way successfully.
My room is meant to be a safe place to take risks, be supported, and fail forward as they learn by doing. Mistakes are only failures if you stop trying! Some of our greatest scientific discoveries are the result of mistakes. We need to strive for on going improvement, not perfection.
This year is going to be amazing. I know, because I will be sharing it with YOU! We are a team and our goals are to help your student to learn what they need, develop curiosity for the world around them, and have a happy, safe seventh grade year
