Head Director Courtney Kelly graduated from Baylor University with a major in Choral Music Education and a minor in Applied Piano. While at Baylor, Mrs. Kelly was a member of the Baylor A Cappella Choir, under the direction of Dr. Donald Bailey, and studied voice with Dr. Robert Best.  

The 2017-2018 school year will mark the beginning of Mrs. Kelly's tenth year of teaching, all of which has been spent as the choir director at Canyon Ridge. Under her direction, the choir program has seen exponential growth in both size and success.  Starting with 90 students her first year, the program now has an enrollment of over 400 students.  The choirs of CRMS are award-winning ensembles, continuous sweepstakes recipients at UIL, and the Varsity Treble Choir was a Nationally Commended Choir in the 2013 and 2014 Mark of Excellence Project for the Foundation of Music Education.  Additionally, the Varsity Treble Choir was an invited choir at the 2016 Cambiata Institute of America, and in 2017, was an invited choir at the Texas Music Educator's Association, the state's highest honor for choral music. 

Mrs. Kelly teaches the Varsity Treble Choir, Varsity Tenor-Bass Choir, two sections of 6th Grade Girls Choir, and assists with the Junior Varsity Choirs and 6th grade boys.  In her spare time, she loves reading Harry Potter, crafting and design (Hobby Lobby is her favorite store!), cooking, and travelling with her husband. They have two fur-babies: a cat named Carmen, and a Pyredoodle named Luna!







Michal Risser
Associate Choir Director

Associate Director Michal Risser graduated from Texas Tech University in December 2013 with a major in Music Education and a minor in Child Psychology. While at Texas Tech, she was a member of the Texas Tech University Choir and performed with them at the TMEA and ACDA conventions. She was also involved in many different activities across campus, including her role as a Texas Tech Ambassador for the College of Visual and Performing Arts and studying abroad in Ireland. 

The 2017-2018 school year will be Mrs. Risser's fourth year of teaching at CRMS. Prior to working at Canyon Ridge, she student taught at Cedar Park High School and was a long-term sub Assistant Choir Director at Rouse High School. Before student teaching, she was a Teaching Artist with the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra and was also a student conductor for the Texas Tech University Singers. 

Mrs. Risser teaches a section of the Junior Varsity Treble Choir, Junior Varsity Tenor-Bass Choir, two sections of 6th Grade Boys Choir, and assists with the Varsity Choirs.  Mrs. Risser loves to travel, and recently went to Thailand and Japan!





Mackenzie Malone

Assistant Director Mackenzie Malone graduated from Texas Tech University in December 2015 with a Bachelor’s in Music Education. While at Texas Tech University, Mackenzie was a member of the Texas Tech University Choir, the Texas Tech Women’s Chorale, and a member of musical theater courses.

Miss Malone was selected as a University Singers Apprentice in the spring of 2015, and played the lead character in Menotti’s Old Maid and the Thief. She was also selected to perform in a summer opera program in Mondavio, Italy in the summer of 2014. 

This will be Miss Malone's second year of teaching. She teaches a section of the Junior Varsity Treble Choir, two sections of 6th Grade Girls, the JV Tenor/Bass Choir, and assists the Varsity Choirs. She has always dreamed of becoming  Her hobbies include bike riding, hiking, and play dates with her dogs, Max and Pepper.
