Remember that your CAS portfolio is meant to showcase all your experiences. CURATE your reflections+evidence. Emphasize quality over quantity. A CAS Portfolio containing reflections+evidence about your CAS journey is not about hitting a magic number-- it is about sharing your magic self.
What are the requirements of CAS?
Consistent CAS commitment over 18 months (3-4 times a month, starting in August of junior year, ending in March of senior year)
Regular reflections that go beyond description
Evidence showing quantity, but also QUALITY of your experiences
Achievement of all seven learning outcomes (shown in evidence and reflections throughout all experiences)
Balance between the three strands (C, A, S)
At least one CAS Project
Progress through the five stages of CAS (in the Project, other ongoing experiences)
Three interviews with CAS Coordinator to discuss engagement, progress (early junior year, early senior year, and March of senior year)
How many reflections do I need?
There is no magic number. CAS does not require a specific number of reflections to be considered complete. But your reflections need to be thoughtful and honest.
CAS begins at the beginning of grade 11 and occurs over an 18 month period through grade 12 (usually ending around March - April of your senior year). Your final interview with your CAS Coordinator will involve the assessment of your CAS portfolio for completion. This final CAS Interview/assessment of your portfolio will take place in the Spring Semester of Grade 12. Should you have insufficient evidence within your CAS portfolio to receive a PASS you will be required to build your CAS portfolio and repeat the interview process with the CAS Coordinator until you receive a PASS. Failure to PASS the CAS Interview results in failure to receive an IB Diploma.
