Therapist Referral

As a school counselor, I am not able to provide on-going therapy. I am often asked for a list of counselors. I cannot provide a list. Choosing a counselor is a very personal thing that varies by personality. I might love someone that doesn’t work for you. Plus, the district doesn’t endorse any businesses by making referrals.

Instead we recommend:

  1. If you are using your insurance or EAP (employee assistance program), they will provide you a list of counselors that you can see. Make sure you specify area, age, and focus (depression, divorce, etc…). There aren’t a lot of child therapists in our area that accept new patients.

  2. Go to psychologytoday.com (https://therapists.psychologytoday.com/rms/) to find out more about the therapists on your lists. They won’t all be on there, but many are.

  3. Some therapists have websites and this can be another way to check them out.

If you try one and it’s not a good fit, just keep trying. It can take a few tries. There are a few therapists in the area that I have actually met, but once again, I can’t recommend them as being good or not since this is a personal opinion. If you are not able to afford a therapist and need one, please let me know. I may be able to help you with alternatives including our district Student and Family Support Team.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if there is anything I can help with at school.
