Machine Shop Users Get Dose of Tough Love

Thank You from the LSD

Thank you, Friends, for coming out to play at the picnic last Friday! Everyone in the Life Sciences Division really enjoyed the live music. In addition, it was wonderful a wonderful treat to play with you one more time. Please find attached an extra thank you from the picnic hosts: the Early Career Scientist Society. In addition, there are some pictures (and a vid!) from the event, downloadable from HERE.

I will miss the Ukulele Club. You are an amazing group of people and the gift of your friendship and talents will stay with me as I head out East. Please don't be a stranger - let me know if you'll be in the DC area!!!

Mahalo!

Uke Club Plays Solano Rotary Club Luau Fundraiser

The Lab’s Ukulele Club performed at the Rotary Club of Solano Sunset’s First Annual Luau Fundraiser in Spring of 2013, to raise money for the Omega Boys and Girls Club and an international service project. Members (l-r) Lorraine Dowling, Olga Poblete, Lida Gifford, Lorenza Gibson, Christie Canaria, Neli Lopez, and Robert Fox were presented with medallions for demonstrating the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self.” The Ukulele Club has a strong commitment to Lab and community service, says past President Lida Gifford, having performed at Open House, elderly care facilities, fundraisers, and church festivals, among other activities.

In Memoriam: Elmer Morrissey

One of our members, Elmer Morrissey, was lost at sea on Saturday, April 14th 2012 during a sailing race off the Farallons. Elmer was a postdoc in EETD and played with the group on Tuesdays at lunchtime in Building 90. He was a cheerful, friendly person who helped us choose Irish songs for our repertoire and was a good sport when we decided to include, "Cockles and Mussels," even though it is the unofficial anthem of his favorite rugby club's rival. We enjoyed singing and playing with Elmer; he certainly will be missed by all who knew him and knew of him.

Elmer Morrissey Memorial Scholarship

A group of Elmer's friends have organized a Memorial Scholarship honoring Morrissey’s life and work. Cork, Ireland, will be the site of a fundraising event for this scholarship on November 16.

If you’re interested in contributing to the Elmer Morrissey Memorial Scholarship, please see http://www.elmermorrissey.org/ for more information.
