Community Service is essential for many scholarships! If you have a 95 GPA or better, please see Barbara Simpson about becoming a member of BETA CLUB Honor Society. The Beta Club offers many opportunities to support your community!
SENIORS and future Dual Credit Students: All students applying to a Texas Public Institution must also take the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) Assessment. However, the good news is…you may be exempt from this test based on your SAT or ACT scores!!! Please come see Mrs. Watson to determine if you are exempt. Latexo High School is now a designated TSI Testing Site. All interested students need to contact Mrs. Watson or Mr. Cravens for testing dates and times.
My name is Kim Watson and I am the Academic Counselor, as well and campus principal. My goal is to help you determine your plan for the future after LHS. Please come see me about schedules, transcripts, graduation plans, college entrance exams, scholarships, financial aid, and other matters that are academically related.
The Director of Financial Aid at Angelina College always makes the Latexo High School's Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Night an overwhelming success! The date is set for Oct. 11th from 5:30 -7:30 PM. Bring your 2020 tax return and W2s/1099s. FAFSA is the only form necessary to apply for federal student aid which includes grants, scholarships, loans, and work-study. The FAFSA is required for college admission.
VERY IMPORTANT for Juniors and Seniors! If you will be taking any dual credit classes, whether at LHS or on the Angelina campus, Senate Bill 1107 requires you to have the Bacterial Meningitis Vaccination before enrollment. Please submit an official immunization record to Mrs. Patterson. Please advise Mrs. Watson when this is done, so a copy can be faxed to Angelina College to complete your enrollment. Please take care of this as soon as possible before the classes fill up. There is limited seating.
Information on College Campus Visits will be made soon. Check back for further information.
If you plan to visit a college on your own during a school day, there is a College Visitation form that must be filled out prior to your absence. Come by the office to pick up one and have the forms explained to you so that your absence will be excused. Seniors are allowed two excused college visitation days. Remember to check with the campus you are visiting to set up an appointment. Due to Covid, you may not be allowed to visit the campus.
The ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) will be given to interested Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors is Oct 19, 2021. The ASVAB Career Exploration Program has been designed to help students explore specific careers best suited to their skills, interests, and personality.
On Wednesday, October 13th, 2021, all Juniors will take the PSAT. The PSAT is a preliminary college admissions assessment used for guidance purposes and National Merit Scholarships. Benefits of the PSAT include: an online score report detailing test questions and students' projected SAT scores; a personalized SAT study plan based on students' individual answers; a detailed personality test to help students discover majors and careers that fit their strengths and interests; a starter list of college matches; and extensive information about majors and careers, including what to expect in college. Latexo ISD is proud to pay for and provide this unique assessment for our students!
