This document is a culminating reflection of my participation in this course. This is evidence of learning because it describes how this course has changed the way I teach and improved student learning. This document shows my thoughts on how beneficial Google Classroom will be for me and my students, the methods I hope to use, and how I think Google Classroom will impact student learning.
Final Course Reflection:
Google Classroom has a lot of benefits both for teachers and for students. It has an easy to use layout and the option to invite parents so they can keep track of how and what their child is doing. One of Google Classroom’s biggest benefits is all of the tools it offers to help deliver lessons. Some of these tools include creating and posting assignments, delivering quizzes, and embedding links and videos. The ease of these tools provides teachers with probably the biggest benefit which is extra time. This extra time teachers can use to address individual needs of students and provide feedback to students before, during, and after their lessons have been completed.
Google Classroom allows you to provide feedback on Google Doc assignments as students are working on them. You can also type feedback after an assignment has been completed. This ability to communicate after class hours, between students and their teacher, will only benefit the students academically. Students are able to ask questions they might be too afraid to ask in class.
Another great benefit of Google Classroom is that it allows teachers to post assignments either as a grade or ungraded. These assignments can be posted for 1 class, multiple classes, or just 1 or a few select students. This ability to individualize assignments across multiple classes and to specific students is really helpful. Students who need a little extra help can be given additional documents, videos, or links to websites to assist them in their study.
While taking this course I was able to utilize the quiz creation tool on Google Classroom for the 1st time. This is one tool that I would like to use more and I can see all the benefits it has to offer. The quiz tool uses Google Forms which is another app in Google Suite that is easy to use. I have used Forms to create surveys but that is my extent in using it. I think using the quiz tool, and its ability for machine learning could really save me time. The quiz tool can also grade multiple-choice, and bubble answers so that I can devote my time to providing feedback on short answer questions. This quiz tool also gives a lot of data to reflect on for future lessons and quizzes.
All of these tools and benefits that Google Classroom offers is extremely beneficial to students and gives them more opportunity to be academically successful.
