Lesbos is the third biggest island in Greece and the eighth in the Mediterranean. It's population is roughly 100,000. It is a very interesting island with rich history, picturesque villages and beautiful beaches. It is certainly worth spending some time there and going all around it, visiting the various beaches, towns, and villages. It is mainly covered with olive trees (believe it or not 11 million of them), but it also has large pine and oak forests. It is hilly and known for its alternating scenery. It's southwest part, is mostly arid, resembling a volcanic landscape. Indeed, it is in that region where the petrified forest is situated, a protected natural monument worth visiting. Lesbos is also a gastronomical paradise for fresh sea food and local delicacies (sardines cured in salt, stuffed zucchini flowers, oil cheese-ladotyri, giouzlemedes-cheese pies etc), as well as the capital of Greece's most famous drink, ouzo! The sure thing is, no matter how many days you will decide to spend, you will not get bored. It is a place that can accommodate the lazy ones, who just want to sit and roast on a beach, it can please the party people, who want to go out and get drunk, and it is definitely an ideal place for the adventurous ones, who want to drive all around, see different places, visit museums and sites, eat the local food, hike etc. Below you can find some information about my island, its history and its culture, along with a collection of useful links, maps, travel guides etc!
